Is there a such thing as a video camera Tripod that you can wear? (more details)?
so i will be travelling in a few months and i’ve had a travel blog idea in my head do that my friends and family can kinda come along and follow my trip, i was making a video the other day and i thought i had shut my camera off when i picked up the tripod, and the views that i got from the tripod while i was walking were pretty steady, so i tried it out a couple times with the camera pointed in my direction, the feet of the tripod resting on my hip, i walked around for a while, and compared it to just holding the camera in my hand. you get a better view and video quality with the tripod. my question is-is there a tripod that is specifically made to walk around with kinda like what i was doing? its hard on your arm holding it up so one with a shoulder strap and something that could wrap around your waste?

I stumbled across a Sony branded product recently – it is a bit overkill – but may give you some ideas… their VCTSP1BP Monopod Camera Support System. Seems to fit between the SteadyCam/Glidecam vest system and the FigRig and other similar handheld stbilizing systems.
It seems to me that this Sony vest system could be improvised by using a monopod (or only one leg extended on a tripod), neck-strap and a “flag carrier” thing used by the folks who carry large flags during parades… When walking or running, you won’t get the smoothness of a SteadyCam/GlideCam vest/articulated/counterbalanced arm mechanism, but it fills your description of “a shoulder strap and something that could wrap around your waist”…
There are also some shoulder-mount systems – some as simple as adding an “arm” and handle to the tripod mount on the camcorder and then there is the “SpiderBrace”… These solutions work because the shoulder mount is a lot more steady than handheld. I’ve gotten some OK shots with a device I made from PVC pipe and an aluminum “stage” that looks a bit like a SpiderBrace (so shoulder mount + two handles to hold) and a tripod head for mounting.
