How can I attach my tripod to my digital slr camera?
I’ve used my tripod before with other cameras and I know how the “hole” on the bottom of the camera screws into the tripod. But my tripod has a little metal button type thing near the screw piece. You can press it down, but it pops up on its own after; it’s spring-loaded. What is this and how can I get it out of the way?
If I let it pop up and go down (only when the camera is on top of it while I’m screwing it on, if I rotate the camera a little it pops back up, rotate it some more and it’s under the camera again… etc) it scratches the camera badly. I know it works the same way with digital slrs and other basic cameras, I just included that piece of info because I LOVE this camera and am not willing to put a circular engraving on the bottom from a tripod that I’m simply not used to. Help, and thanks!!
Technically your tripod is probably was meant for video camcorder. These have a little extra hole for that button, so to hold camera steady when you pan.
So – you’ll really have to either get creative, sacrifice the camera or the tripod.
If you want to get creative, try to layer a bit of rubber between the camera and that button, or otherwise protect the camera. On the other hand if your tripod utilizes quick release plates, look up its manufacturer and try to get one that fits it without the button.
If you don’t mind screwing with the tripod, just grab a power drill, and drill the sucker right out! It may not look pretty, but will do the job!
