What is the gold color paper-like conductor that is used inside computers called?
It’s thin and flexible like paper. It doesn’t look like it’s made up of wires, but it can carry multiple isolated lines. it connects by putting a flat terminal end in a jack. It’s used often for connecting components in portable devices (ipods, psp’s etc.) Does anyone know what this stuff is called? And if it’s possible for a hobbyist to use or fix?
your talking “ribbon cable” for either the printer or the laptop screen to mother board…its simply gold plated copper plating sandwich between laminating plastic. If there is a small brake in the leads you can VERY carefully solder it back together the cover the exposed metal with nail polish. I’ve repaired a few printer cables that way. You could try sanding some copper and use the copper “dust” mixed with nail polish to make a paste it often works too. I have stripped out some very thin wire (#80) and aligned them on clear packing tape then covered it with another strip of tape…works as well..! I use to have to do things like this for work on delicate communications equipment!
