“District 9? star Sharlto Copley has pulled out of the D.J. Caruso directed adaptation of James Frey and Jobie Hughes’s YA sci-fi alien book “I Am Number Four”.
Replacing Sharlto will be Timothy Olyphant, last seen in “Live Free or Die Hard”, “Hitman” and the excellent Justified for the FX network. Sharlto exited because of scheduling conflicts with the promotion of the “A-Team” reboot, or so he says.Former “Lost” merc Kevin Durand (who was also in “X-Men Origins: Wolverine” and the upcoming “Robin Hood”) is in negotiations to join two sci-fi movies: playing the alien villain in Dreamworks’ “I am Number Four” and a boxing promoter in “Real Steel”, also from Dreamworks.D.J. Caruso is directing “Four,” which adapts the upcoming young-adult science fiction book by James Frey and Jobie Hughes. The story centers on one of nine aliens (played by Alex Pettyfer) who escape their home planet before its annihilation by a rival species and hide out on Earth disguised as high school students.
Durand is playing the commander of the aliens who are hunting the survivors down on Earth.Steel” sees Shawn Levy directing Hugh Jackman in the tale set in a future in which robots fight it out in the boxing ring. Jackman is a former boxer-turned-manager who reunites with his estranged son to take his fighter to the championships.
n case you’re not a fan of Fox’s teen musical show “Glee” (apparently everyone in the whole world is, at least according to Fox), Dianna Agron plays the pregnant cheerleader. Now she can add love interest to secret alien teen to her resume.
THR reports that Agron has landed the female lead in Dreamworks’ “I am Number Four”, and will play the love interest of leading man Alex Pettyfer.
In the film, based on the young adult novels by James Frey and Jobie Hughes, Pettyfer will play Four, one of nine aliens hiding out on Earth as high schoolers after they escape their home planet just before it was annihilated by a rival species. Trouble arises when the aliens realize they have been pursued to Earth by the enemy.
