Mountaineer Tripod

Mountaineer Tripod
Which tripod to get?

I’ll have a Canon EOS 30D body and will be taking a lot of photos on mountaineering and backpacking trips, so weight and ruggedness are an issue. I was looking at Gitzos; is that really the way to go as far as lightweight tripods go? If so, how does one go about choosing one Gitzo over the other? Thanks a lot!

Gitzo’s are over priced. I would look for a Bogen Manfroto, light weight. Unless you are going to put a heavy lens on the front, the new cameras don’t weigh enough to even throw.
