Pulling Off the Military Trend
Undoubtedly, you have noticed the military trend. One of the most prominent trends of the season it features in many of the collections of world-leading designers. Whether Roadhogs, Caterpillar, Wrangler, etc, sales of military boots are hitting an all time high. Shoe shops the breadth of the country are stocking up, and if you have yet to revel in this latest fashion scene, now is your chance.
In order to trace this style back in time we need only look to the punk/mod trend of the ’80s and the grunge trends of the mid 1990s; because we can safely categorise the military trend as a retro fashion style.
There are a few problems with this trend, particularly for women, and here, we address some of these problems and how to avoid them, in order to ensure that you look fashionable even in this most difficult of styles to master.
The military trend encompasses many different types of clothing. If you find the task of working out whether clothing belongs to this genre difficult, then follow these rules: if there a chequered pattern, if the skirt is excessively short, if the jeans are super skinny, if the jacket has an aviator theme, and if there is a lot of leather, then the chances are, it pertains to the military style.
Indeed, if the clothes give the impression that the wearer is ready for a fight, then more often than not, the clothing is military. Fortunately, this latest trend has softened down those previously rugged edges. Nowadays, the most important tip for pulling off this style with any success is to add a feminine flair to the occasion. Otherwise, you risk ejection from many of the places you wish to show your fashion off: the city bars, exclusive nightclubs, friend’s parties, five star restaurants…You get the picture.
OK, so one of the biggest problems with wearing this trend comes from looking overly butch. Particularly if you choose to wear military boots, you run the risk of looking overly masculine – great for men, not so much for women. However, there are some great ways of wearing military boots so that the image you portray actually highlights your femininity, and in the following paragraphs, we discuss this further.
In order to pull off a sexy look, you need to balance the heavy military connotations with overtly feminine clothing. Thus, wear your boots with long floaty dresses, or choose dresses or blouses with plenty of floral patterning (which happens to be another of this year’s biggest trends), wear make-up and if possible, eyelash extensions, to really show off just how feminine you are. Balance out the chunkiness of shoes by wearing form-fitting trousers, skirts, and tops. In this way, the military clothing just serves to highlight your femininity, rather than down play it or compromise it in any way.
