Treasure Hunt Helps Military Household Scholarships
Treasure hunts are all the trend, from Disney’s hit film, “National Treasure,” to NBC’s new show, “Treasure Hunters.” This summer, everybody can take part in a treasure hunt and earn an opportunity to win prizes whereas donating to a trigger: academic scholarships for the youngsters and spouses of U.S. soldiers.
A want to thank the troops motivated Rachel and Kelsi Okun, sisters from McLean, Va., to create ThanksUSA, a nationwide treasure hunt to learn army families. Among the many prizes are a Harley-Davidson motorcycle; a big-display screen residence theater system; and trips to the 2007 Tremendous Bowl, the Daytona 500, London and Cairo, Egypt. All prizes were donated by sponsors.
The Okuns’ virtual treasure hunt incorporates 12 “chapters,” which are posted on-line in a clue book. Each chapter assessments participants’ knowledge of American history, well-liked culture, geography and trivia pertaining to a sure state. Those that appropriately reply the questions in every chapter are eligible to win a prize.
Gamers who successfully reply all 12 stages are eligible to win the $100,000 grand prize bundle including a Washington, D.C., journey to search for a treasure chest stuffed with jewelry, rare gems and centuries-previous coins.
ThanksUSA is short for “Treasure Hunt Aiding Needs of Youngsters (and spouses) of these Serving the United States of America.” The hunt is open to any U.S. citizen and lasts by means of Sept. 5. Participation is free, but donations toward the scholarships are strongly encouraged.
“The least we might do for these heroes of America is to help their youngsters and spouses have a brighter future as they’re helping the entire U.S.’s spouses and kids have better futures, too,” writes Rachel, 10, in an essay describing how the thought got here to fruition.
Rachel and Kelsi came up with the idea after studying Michael Stadther’s e book, “A Treasure’s Trove.” The sisters designed ThanksUSA’s logo and helped with analysis for the questions. The clues have been a collaborative effort among the many girls, their dad and mom, a trainer and other volunteers.
“We wanted to say thanks to our troops and wished to show that we care about them,” says 8-12 months-previous Kelsi.
