Gripping Tripod
What photographic tripod can you recommend?
is there someone who can recommend a good & reliable photographic tripod. i have a canon 40D and i usually attached the battery grip all the time. thanks!
To answer that question you might want to consider what you’ll be using the tripod for because as you reach the upper end of the market, tripods and tripod heads become interchangeable and have specialist purposes. For example you can get heads that are ideal for keeping the camera level, or at an identical position to previously, making them good for landscape shots. For that you’d probably want a sturdy tripod. You can get heads specific for sport – they tend to have easy panning mechanisms, often fluid damped. The prices are varied, I recommend going to a camera shop and trying individual ones out, because it’s important to get a head that you literally like the feel of. There are some weird and wonderful tripods and heads out there – and some incredibly specialist fields.
Some pit falls to consider when buying tripods – how portable is it? Can you fit it in hand luggage? When the legs are fully extended, does still feel solid? Is it quick to extend the legs?
Manfrotto is probably the best known high-end manufacturer but these days in my opinion there are plenty of relatively unknown brands that are just as good and half the price – but again, you really need to look at one physically before you buy it.
