Samsung CLP 500 – A Wise Business Choice
The Samsung CLP 500 printer is a great machine as long as you stay within its capabilities. Though this printer is marketed, as being for small offices it really is best suited for home and family use. The paper output is not very high as the input and output trays hold only 250 sheets of paper. The reason it is not really suited for small businesses is that the Samsung CLP 500 printer does not have any small networking capabilities. The best toner for this printer is the CLP 500 toner cartridge.
This printer is fairly heavy when fully loaded weighing about 35kg. So once you have it in place and set up it is best to leave it in that spot. It is a very fast printer and can print 20 pages per minute when printing in black and white and 5 pages per minute when printing in color.
Color printing can produce 5 pages per minute and black and white printing has a high speed of 20 pages per minute. When printing the highest quality color printouts the printer slows to 2 pages per minute. The LCD screen and available buttons make it very easy to use.
It is possible to upgrade the Samsung CLP 500 printer to have Ethernet and wireless networking abilities as the standard model can only connect to another computer using a USB cable or parallel port. However if you want networking capabilities then it may be worthwhile to upgrade to the CLP 500N model. You will have to compare the different in price. The printer will connect to both PC and Mac computers.
The difference is not so great that you could not use the printer for home, personal or small office use. Though if you print a lot of text and not so much graphics you may want to look into another printer.
The Samsung CLP 500 printer uses a 4-color toner system. However the starter toner that comes with the printer only lasts for about 2,000 pages so it is recommended that you purchase a full six toner when purchasing the printer. The full size toner will last for between 7,500 – 9,000 pages. The memory can be expanded to 192MB though the standard memory that comes with the printer is 65 MB.
The printer is compatible with many different Linux systems including, Linux Mandrake, Debian Linux, Slackware Linux, Caldera Open Linux, Red Hat Linux, TurboLinux, and SuSe Linux. Linux operating systems are used a lot in businesses. It is also compatible with Microsoft Windows 96 or later and Apple MacOS 8.6 or later. It can print on various media, even custom sized papers. As long as the paper is below the maximum width and length (8.5 x 14 inches) then you will be bale to print on the media.
If you are looking for fast and reliable printing then the Samsung CLP 500 printer is an excellent option. In order to keep the printer running you will need to have a supply of paper and CLP 500 printer toner cartridge to replace when needed. For truly exception graphic printing in color and black and white, there is no better model or Samsung CLP 500 toner cartridge for the price. It’s the best toner.
