Help, scratched my carbon fibre bike, any solutions to covering the scratch?
Where in New York city can I get repair sealant for my scratched carbon fibre bike frame?
It seems that somehow my bike has been scratched and I now need something I saw advertised on tv but no idea where to find it, .
Fortunately, the scratch is not to deep, but as it is carbon fibre…
For the scratch to cause significant damage, it would have to go past the clearcoat (if it’s clear), and a layer of epoxy, in order to reach the carbon weave. If the scratch was really deep, Calfee does repairs, but since it’s not too deep, I would go to the auto store and get some clearcoat touchup paint. This is a smooth glossy coat that goes on top of everything else. It’s similar to clear nail polish, but protects against UV and doesn’t yellow.
If the scratch is wide, first sand the scratch with very fine grit sandpaper. Then clean it up. This creates a surface that paint can stick to.
Finally, after the paint drys, use a rubbing compound like Nufinish Scratch Doctor, to smooth out the dried paint. This compound acts like a super fine sandpaper, and polishes off the surface.
If the scratch is a light surface scratch, then the rubbing compound may be all you need.
